At this year’s Gardener’s World Live 2017 show, Wonderful Wildlife worked with Viv Seccombe of Outside Garden Design and Artemis Landscapes Ltd, in the design and development of their wildlife friendly front garden ‘Living in Sync’. The garden won a Silver Merit Medal and was a great success with the public, who were allowed onto the garden to explore beyond the boundary hedges.

The bug towers, which formed the central feature of the garden were well received by the public, with huge interest and inspiration for visitors to take home as to how they could re-create the ideas in the garden and make space for a wildlife friendly garden, no matter how small the space.

Over 5,000 leaflets on ‘How to Make a Bug Tower’ were handed out over the four day show.  There is clearly a huge interest among British gardeners as to how they can encourage wildlife in their garden and it was great to see such enthusiasm.

We are building a bug hotel and have gained some useful info from your leaflet. Thank yuo for making the effort to inform us in this manor. We are thinging of using straw in one of the slots, some dead flower storks and later on we will use sunflower storks. And maybe a slot filled just with leaves. My children are planning to use this to get a blue peter badge too.

Great to hear that the leaflet was useful. We enjoyed making them for the show and have since installed them at a children’s nursery in East London. With regards to materials to fill your boxes, your suggestions sound great, they will decompose over time, but this is good as it will provide a food source for your bugs, whom I hope will find your houses. Good luck with the badge, we hope you are successful. Rachel
